Manicotti
- 1 lb. Italian sweet sausage links
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 (16 oz.) cans tomato puree
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- basil
- salt
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. manicotti shells (16)
- 4 c. Ricotta cheese
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella cheese, diced
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
- fresh grated Parmesan cheese
- Cook sausage links in Dutch oven until brown.
- Drain in paper toweling and remove fat from pan.
- Brown ground beef and onion well; stir in tomato puree, paste, sugar, pepper, 1 teaspoon basil, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 cup water.
- Simmer, covered, for 45 minutes. Cut sausage into bite-size pieces and add to mixture.
- Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In the meantime, cook manicotti as label directs; drain in colander.
- Preheat oven to 375u0b0.
