Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Frosting

  1. For cake:.
  2. Preheat oven to 350*.
  3. Line an 8-inch cake pan with a circle of parchment paper cut to fit the bottom of the pan.
  4. Set pan aside.
  5. In a large bowl, mix baking soda, sugar, flour,and salt.
  6. Dissolve cocoa powder in hot water and then add to dry ingredients.
  7. Stir in applesauce, egg substitute, and vanilla.
  8. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 35 minutes.
  10. Cool cake conmpletely on cooling rack before frosting.
  11. For frosting:.
  12. In the bowl on an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
  13. Add sugar and beat until incorporated.
  14. Add cocoa powder, salt, and vanillla and beat until blended.
  15. If the frosting is too thvck to spread, add the milk, 1 tablespoon at a tine, with the mixer on low, until spreading consistency is reached.
