Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

  1. In small saucepan, heat water, shortening and 3 tablespoons sugar until very warm (120u0b0 to 130u0b0).
  2. In large bowl blend warm liquid, 2 cups flour, 1 cup whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, yeast and eggs at low speed until moistened.
  3. Beat 4 minutes at medium speed.
  4. By hand stir in remaining wheat flour and enough all-purpose flour to form a stiff dough.
  5. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  6. Place dough in greased bowl and turn greased side up.
  7. Cover and let rise until double, about 60 minutes.
  8. Grease (not oil) pans.
  9. Punch down dough. Pinch off and shape into balls, place in prepared pans.
  10. Cover and let rise until double, about 45 to 60 minutes.
  11. Bake at 375u0b0 for about 15 to 20 minutes (golden brown).
  12. Rolls sound hollow when lightly tapped.
  13. Rub tops with butter.
