Mock Toscana Pasta Sauce

  1. Brown and crumble sausage in a pot.
  2. Add the garlic and onion, heating all.
  3. Stir in the vodka (you have my permission to add a bit more) and simmer for a few minutes.
  4. I was in a pinch, so I added a jar of basil and garlic spaghetti sauce.
  5. In the future, I think Ill try to make my sauce with a jar of whole tomatoes and extra seasonings.
  6. Please note, this would mean that youd need more seasonings overall.
  7. Use a jar for ease, or add your own favorite homemade sauce if you prefer.
  8. Once all is mixed, add the sour cream.
  9. This adds a creamy thickness to the tomato-based sauce.
  10. Plus, sour cream adds an important kick.
  11. Now are the two most important parts.
  12. First, add seasonings.
  13. I covered the top with basil, oregano, and pizza seasoning (I was out of Italian seasoning).
  14. After stirring this in, I repeated adding more seasoning.
  15. I also added some Mrs.
  16. Dash tomato, basil, garlic seasoning.
  17. After about an hour or so, I added more again.
  18. Keep tasting and adding as needed.
  19. This is the other (maybe most important) step.
  20. Im a firm believer that a good sauce must sit and meld for a good long time.
  21. I poured the pot of sauce into my slow cooker and let it cook for a few hours.
  22. The house smelled great and I had time to add more seasoning as I wished.
  23. As dinner time approaches, cook your pasta according to directions.
  24. I think this would pair well with farfalle (bowtie) pasta.
  25. For the first time, however, I cooked elbow macaroni.
  26. This looked familiar to the kids, so they tried it happily (and loved it).
  27. When the toddler says, Mmm, good, thank you, Mom, I know its a hit.
