Apple Brown Betty
- 4 heaping cups peeled, diced sweet apples
- 1/2 cup natural granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons nonhydrogenated margarine
- 4 cups fresh bread crumbs
- Preheat the oven to 350F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the apples with the sugar and cinnamon, and stir together.
- In a 9 by 9-inch nonstick baking pan, arrange layers of half of the apple mixture.
- Dot with half of the margarine, then sprinkle with half of the bread crumbs.
- Repeat the layers, then sprinkle 1/4 cup water over the top.
- Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake until the top is golden brown, about 10 minutes more.
- Serve warm.
