Sweet 'n' Sassy Pork Chili
- 1 lb. hot Italian sausage
- 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 1 red onion, chopped
- 1 cup celery
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 hot Hungarian banana peppers, seeded and chopped*
- 2 cans (14-1/2 oz. each) diced tomatoes
- 4 cups V8
- tomato juice
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
- 1/2 tsp. basil
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 2 tbsp. brown sugar
- Cheddar cheese, for topping (optional)
- In saucepan, brown and crumble the sausage and pork; drain.
- Crockpot: Add sausage, pork, onion, celery, peppers, tomato juice and spices to crockpot.
- Mix well.
- Cook in HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
- Ladle into bowls.
- Top with cheese if desired.
- Stove top: Add sausage, pork, onion, celery, peppers, tomato juice and spices to large pot.
- Mix well.
- Heat to boiling.
- Simmer for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
- Ladle into bowls.
- Top with cheese if desired.
