chana masala
- 2 cup bengal gram
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 7 clove garlic(minced or crushed)
- 1 inch ginger(minced or crushed)
- 1 stick cinamon(small)
- 1 each bay leaf
- 2 medium onions(chopped)
- 2 large tomatoes(chopped)
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 dash garam masala powder
- 1 salt to taste
- 1 slice lemon
- 1/2 bunch coriander leaves chopped
- 1 water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- soak d bengal gram in water overnight or atleast 5-6 hours
- in a pressure cooker add the bengal gram,cover it with water half an inch more than the level of the beans.add salt and cook for 4-5 whistles
- the beans should b soft but nt falling apart
- in a saucepan,heat the oil,add the cinamon stick & the bay leaf.add the ginger,garlic.when they turn a golden colour,add the onions
- fry the onions til they turn golden brown.add the turmeric powder,cumin powder,coriander powder,red chilli powder & salt.sprinkle some water so that the spices dont burn.
- add the tomatoes & sugar,cook until tomatoes are tender.
- add half a cup water and bring it to a boil.
- now add the cooked beans,mix well,simmer for 5-7 min,adjust the seasoning.add the garam masala,lemon juice,mix well.
- garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
