Easy 1-Pot Non-Fried Candied Sweet Potatoes

  1. Peel the skin of the sweet potato in stripes (or just leave it on).
  2. Chop into bite-sized pieces and soak quickly in water.
  3. Place in a heat-resistant container and microwave until softened!
  4. I cooked mine for 5 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan and sear the potatoes from Step 3.
  6. Let sit for a short moment on medium heat, then jostle the pan to turn them over and repeat.
  7. From here, you need to work quickly.
  8. Once the potatoes in Step 4 have browned nicely, quickly pour in the mirin.
  9. Then, add the sugar and sake.
  10. Melt the butter for a finishing touch.
  11. Add the mizuame (or honey) and mix together.
  12. Once they have cooled, sprinkle sesame seeds and salt, and then they're finished!
