Easy 1-Pot Non-Fried Candied Sweet Potatoes
- 1 Japanese sweet potato
- 3 tbsp Sugar
- 3 tbsp Mirin
- 2 tbsp Sake
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 2 pinch Salt
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 tbsp Mizuame starch syrup (or honey) (optional)
- Peel the skin of the sweet potato in stripes (or just leave it on).
- Chop into bite-sized pieces and soak quickly in water.
- Place in a heat-resistant container and microwave until softened!
- I cooked mine for 5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a frying pan and sear the potatoes from Step 3.
- Let sit for a short moment on medium heat, then jostle the pan to turn them over and repeat.
- From here, you need to work quickly.
- Once the potatoes in Step 4 have browned nicely, quickly pour in the mirin.
- Then, add the sugar and sake.
- Melt the butter for a finishing touch.
- Add the mizuame (or honey) and mix together.
- Once they have cooled, sprinkle sesame seeds and salt, and then they're finished!
