Burnt Caramel Pie Recipe

  1. Method:1Beat together egg yolks, evaporated lowfat milk, syrup, melted butter or possibly margarine, vanilla, 1/2 c. sugar, and flour.
  2. 2Brown 2 c. sugar in an iron skillet till light brown.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add in water; and return to heat till sugar dissolves.
  5. Pour in egg yolk mix.
  6. Cook till thickened, then simmer 5 min.
  7. Pour filling into 2 baked pie shells.
  8. 3Beat egg whites till foamy.
  9. Add in cream of tartar and 1/2 c. sugar; continue to beat till stiff peaks form.
  10. Spread meringue over pies, sealing the edges.
  11. 4Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for about 15 min.
  12. Makes 2 - 9 inch pies
  13. This is an old-fashioned pie.
  14. It is very good, but rich!
