Fruit Cocktail Squares

  1. Set oven to 350 degrees / Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. Drain the fruit cocktail; reserve 1/3 cup of the syrup.
  3. /Add in the 1 tbsp of maraschino cherry syrup to the reserved fruit cocktail syrup.
  4. /Chop the drained fruit, and set aside.
  5. /Stir together in a bowl, the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  6. /In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar; beat in the egg and vanilla.
  7. /Add the remaining mixture, alternating with the syrups to the creamed mixture; mix well.
  8. /Stir in the chopped fruit, coconut and chopped cherries.
  9. /Spread dough into prepared baking pan.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes; cool.
  11. /Sprinkle icing sugar over top if desired.
  12. Sprinkle icing sugar over top if desired.
