Mandys grandmothers famous Irish brown soda bread

  1. Preheat oven to 200C/400F
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl
  3. Mix wet ingredients in another bowl,slowly add the wet to the dry (you may not need all the liquid it should form a soft dough not a wet sticky dough)
  4. On a floured surface gently knead dough ,the place on a lightly floured baking sheet and cut a cross shape on to the top
  5. In a preheated oven at 200C400Fbake the bread for 35/40 minutes until when u tap on the bottom of the bread it sounds hollow
  6. Place on a cooling rack and cover with a clean tea towel when cooled enjoy with a generous helping of butter and a cup of tea
