Chicken Fried Steak With Gravy

  1. Combine one package salad dressing mix, flour, and pepper to taste in a large plastic bag.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine another package salad dressing mix, egg, and 2 cups buttermilk in a shallow bowl.
  4. Soak steaks in buttermilk mixture.
  5. Remove steak, one at a time, and toss in flour mixture.
  6. Shake off excess flour and dip again in buttermilk.
  7. Return to flour mixture and toss.
  8. Heat 1/2 inch layer of oil in a large cast iron skillet to 350 degrees.
  9. Place 2 steaks in the pan at a time.
  10. Cook for 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  11. Drain on paper towels.
  12. For gravy: Combine 1 cup buttermilk, chicken broth, and gravy package in small saucepan.
  13. Bring to simmer over medium heat and stir well.
  14. Top steaks with gravy.
