Veal Steak With Mushrooms Recipe
- 1 to 1 1/2 pound veal steak 3/4 inch thick
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tbsp. shortening or possibly oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp. bottled garlic spread, optional
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 1/4 c. fresh, sliced mushrooms
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- Sprinkle steak with salt and pepper.
- In family skillet, heat shortening over low heat, about 3 min.
- Saute/fry steak till browned, about 3 min per side.
- Place garlic spread over top of browned veal.
- Simmer, covered over low heat for 30 to 35 min, or possibly till veal is tender.
- Remove veal steak to heated platter.
- Thoroughly blend flour into meat drippings, stirring till thickened and smooth.
- Increase to medium low heat.
- Gradually add in 2/3 c. water, stirring constantly, and cooking slowly.
- Add in mushrooms and lemon juice; cook 5 min, stirring occasionally.
- Spoon sauce over veal steak.
- If you like, garnish with lemon peel.
- Makes 4 to 6 servings.
