Black Bean Burgers
- 1 can (15 Oz. Can) Black Beans
- 1/2 whole Onion
- 1/2 whole Green Pepper
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Cumin
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 whole Egg
- Bread Crumbs
- Drain and rinse the black beans.
- Let almost all of the water run off.
- Put the beans in a bowl and mash them until they are thick and creamy.
- Finely chop (or use a food processor) the onion and green pepper.
- Mix these into the beans.
- (At this point you can add any other ingredients you want.
- I sometimes add celery, carrots or half a can of finely diced, drained tomatoes.
- Just make sure everything is chopped up really small.)
- Add the seasonings.
- Add the egg to the bean mixture and begin mixing in bread crumbs.
- Keep adding bread crumbs until the whole mixture sticks together really well.
- Bake or grill just like a normal burger, but for a little less time.
- I always grill mine and it takes about 8 minutes on each side.
- The good news is that it is really hard to overcook these burgers.
- When you cook them, you really just want to heat them through and cook the veggies a bit.
