Black Walnut Pound Cake
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 c. buttermilk (can substitute 1 c. milk plus 1 Tbsp. vinegar)
- 3 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. black walnuts, finely chopped
- Combine Crisco, margarine and sugar. Mix well; add eggs and vanilla. Set aside a mixture of the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder and soda). It is a good idea to add the nuts to the dry ingredients to coat. This keeps them from settling to the bottom of the baking pan. Add the milk and dry ingredients alternately into the egg mixture. Pour into a greased and floured angel food pan. Bake at 350u0b0 for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.
