Bayou Gumbo Recipe

  1. In small saucepan, combine flour and oil; mix well.
  2. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium-high heat for 5 min.
  3. Reduce heat to medium; cook, stirring constantly, about 10 min or possibly till mix turns reddish brown.
  4. Place flour-oil mix in 3 1/2- to 4-qt crockpot.
  5. Stir in all other ingredients except shrimp, rice and water.
  6. Cover; cook on LOW setting for 7 to 9 hrs.
  7. When ready to serve, cook rice in water as directed on package.
  8. Meanwhile, add in shrimp to gumbo mix in crockpot; mix well.
  9. Cover; cook on LOW setting for additional 20 min.
  10. Serve gumbo over rice.
  11. This recipe yields 6 servings.
