Whole Wheat Nut Bread Recipe
- 2/3 c. minced pitted dates
- 1/2 c. minced figs
- 1/2 c. minced nuts
- 2 c. flour
- 3 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 c. honey
- 1 1/3 c. lowfat milk
- 3 tbsp. melted shortening
- 1 1/2 teaspoon grated orange rind
- Mix fruits and nuts with 2 Tbsp.
- of the flour.
- Sift together remaining flour, baking pwdr, salt and soda; stir in whole wheat flour.
- Thoroughly combine brown sugar and egg; blend in honey, lowfat milk, shortening and orange rind.
- Add in to dry ingredients, mixing just till flour is moistened.
- Mix in fruits and nuts.
- Turn into greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
- Bake in 350 degree gas oven 1 to 1 1/4 hrs.
- Cold before removing from pan.
- Makes 1 loaf.
