Chocolate, Date & Walnut Buns

  1. Combine yeast, 1 tsp of the sugar and warm milk in a jug.
  2. Set aside for 5 mins until frothy.
  3. Sift flour and cinnamon into a large bowl.
  4. Rub in butter using your fingertips.
  5. Stir in remaining sugar and orange rind.
  6. Whisk egg into yeast mixture and pour into flour.
  7. Mix to a dough.
  8. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 3 minutes Place in a large, greased bowl.
  9. Cover and set aside for 45 mins until doubled in size.
  10. Punch dough and knead for 2 mins until smooth.
  11. Roll out to 40cm x 24cm rectangle.
  12. Spread with chocolate and scatter with dates and nuts.
  13. Preheat oven to 210C and line a tray with baking paper.
  14. Roll up from long side.
  15. Cut into eight slices.
  16. Place one slice onto centre of tray, then other slices around it in a circle.
  17. Cover and leave for 30 minutes Bake for 20 mins until golden.
  18. Cool on a wire rack.
