Grandma Alice's Dark Fruit Cake Recipe

  1. Sift flour once.
  2. Add in baking pwdr and spices.
  3. Then sift 3 more times.
  4. Cream shortening.
  5. Add in sugar gradually, then the well beaten Large eggs.
  6. Add in fruit, peel, nuts, honey, molasses and cider.
  7. Add in flour gradually.
  8. Bake in pans which are greased and thoroughly lined with oiled paper.
  9. Bake in slow oven (250 degrees) for 3-3 1/2 hrs with a pan of water under the cake on the bottom of oven to keep from burning on bottom.
  10. Makes 10 pounds.
