Mary's Kaeskuch (Cheese Kuchen)

  1. Crust: In a large bowl stir together 1 cup flour, baking powder, 1-1/2 tsp.
  2. sugar and 1/4 tsp.
  3. salt.
  4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Make a well in the center: add milk all at once.
  6. Stir just until dough clings together.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into an 11-inch circle.
  8. Fit into bottom and up sides of an ungreased 9x1-1/2-inch round baking pan.
  9. Trim crust even with top edge of pan.
  10. Bake the crust at 350F oven for 5 minutes.
  11. Set aside.
  12. Filling: In a large bowl beat eggs.
  13. Stir in cottage cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, half-and-half, 1 tbsp.
  14. flour, vanilla, cinnamon and 1/8 tsp.
  15. salt until combined.
  16. Pour filling into crust.
  17. Bake in a 350F for 30 minutes or until center is nearly set.
  18. Cool the dessert on a wire rack for 1 hour.
  19. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours.
