American Pie

  1. Prepare the dough.
  2. Therefor stir together flour, sugar, lemon peel and butter.
  3. Mix, then add eggs and milk and kneat it all until crumbly.
  4. Put it into the fridge for at least half an hour
  5. Now slowly heat up butter and sugar in a large pot.
  6. Meanwhile square the apples and ginger, add them and cook everything slowly for 30 minutes
  7. Now take the dough out the fridge and cut off 2/3.
  8. Flatten it.
  9. Oil the baking dish and form a cake base out of the flattened dough.
  10. Make sure that it reaches over the frame of the dish.
  11. Now put in the stuffing.
  12. Make sure, that the middle is filled a little bit higher.
  13. Preheat the oven on 180 degrees C
  14. With a fork, perforate the upper frame of the dough and use some of the egg yolks to brush it along there, so it works like a glue.
  15. Roll out the rest of the dough and cover the apples with it.
  16. Make sure both parts of the dough stick together.
  17. Now with a knife cut 5 thin stripes into the dough, so the juice can flow out.
  18. With the left over egg yolks, cover the dough.
  19. Let it bake for 55-60 minutes until golden coloured and crispy.
  20. To serve, add some vanilla ice cream - delicious :)
