Modern Marble Cake
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 oz. sq. chocolate or 3 Tbsp. cocoa plus 1 Tbsp. oil equals 1 sq. (1 oz.) baking chocolate
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
- Cream shortening with sugar until fluffy.
- Beat eggs thoroughly and add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately, beating well.
- Add vanilla. Divide batter into halves.
- Melt chocolate and add with 2 tablespoons milk to one half; blend well.
- Drop batter by tablespoons into greased pan, alternating white and chocolate. Bake at 350u0b0 for 50 to 60 minutes.
