Deep Dish Pizza With Tomato & Sausage Recipe
- Whole wheat pizza dough
- 2 (16 ounce.) cans plum tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 pound Mozzarella cheese (2 c. grated)
- 3/4 pound Italian sausage
- Cornmeal for sprinkling
- 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- Make dough.
- Heat oven to 475 degrees.
- Drain tomatoes.
- Coarsely chop and drain again.
- Mince garlic and combine with tomatoes and basil.
- Grate cheese.
- Crumble sausage and brown in a frying pan.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Oil a 10" cast iron frying pan or possibly 9" to 10" spring form pan and sprinkle with cornmeal.
- Press dough into pan and push up the sides.
- Brush with oil.
- Add in sausage and top with half of tomato mix.
- Sprinkle cheese over tomato and top with remaining tomato mix.
- Bake till crust is golden brown, about 15 to 20 min.
