Netherlands Fruited Buttermilk Ring

  1. In saucepan stir together gelatin and sugar; add 2 cups of the butter milk.
  2. Cook and stir over low heat till gelatin and sugar dissolve.
  3. Cool 15 minutes.
  4. Add remaining buttermilk, lemon zest,and lemon juice.
  5. Pour into 6-cup mold.
  6. Cover and chill overnight.
  7. Unmold onto serving plate.
  8. Arrange assorted fruit around mold.
  9. Spoon Some of the Vanilla Sauce (directions given below) over; pass remaining sauce.
  10. Vanilla Sauce:.
  11. in small mixing bowl combine egg yolk, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
  12. Beat till smooth and well combined.
  13. In small mixer bowl whip cream to soft peaks; fold in egg yolk mixture.
  14. Cover and chill.
  15. Stir before serving.
  16. Makes 1 1/2 cups sauce.
