Easy And Basic Red (Tomato) Sauce
- 2 (28 oz.) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 (28 oz.) cans whole tomatoes
- 1 (28 oz.) can tomato puree
- 4 medium to large onions
- 2 large garlic clusters
- 1 Tbsp. allspice
- 1 Tbsp. basil leaves
- 1 Tbsp. paprika
- olive oil
- 1 Tbsp. chives
- 1 Tbsp. oregano
- 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 Tbsp. cayenne
- any additional spices you desire
- any vegetables (e.g. peppers, mushrooms, etc.) or meat (hamburger) can be added at any time (cook and drain meat)
- Basic Mixture:
- In large pan, lightly saute onions and garlic in olive oil.
- Add the tomatoes (i.e. whole, crushed and puree); then add allspice, chives and paprika.
- Simmer on low heat for several hours (the longer the better).
- You may stop here, cool and store (e.g., freeze or refrigerate) for later use or use as directed.
