Irish Sweet Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 325F (160C).
  2. Sift together the flour, salt and soda.
  3. Cream together the shortening and sugar and the molasses.
  4. Beat in the egg.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and sour milk; stir in the fruit.
  6. Pour the batter into 2 greased 8 x 4 x 2 1/2-inch loaf pans and bake 75 minutes.
