Homemade Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

  1. Prep the ingredients: Finely chop the onion, bell pepper and celery.
  2. Mince hot chili and garlic if using.
  3. In a large frying pan or sauce pan, add beef, vegetables, garlic and chili pepper and saute on medium.
  4. You shouldn't need any oil because the fat and liquid from beef will be enough.
  5. Cook for 10 minutes or so, until the beef has browned completely and the water from the vegetables has evaporated.
  6. Drain out any excess oil from the meat.
  7. Add the rest of the ingredients - ketchup, mustard, salt & pepper, sugar, cumin, and Worcestershire sauce - and mix well.
  8. Cover and let simmer on low for 10-15 minutes so the flavors soak right into the meat.
  9. Stir occasionally.
  10. It's ready once the sauce has thickened up!
  11. Toast the buns and pile on the Sloppy Joe mix!
  12. Have plenty of napkins available ;)
