Aunt Georgia's Gumdrop Cake

  1. Remove black gumdrops if you don't like them (I use them).
  2. Toss gumdrops in a little flour before using.
  3. This keeps them from dropping to the bottom of the cake.
  4. Warm the applesauce in the microwave until just a bit hot, not REALLY hot.
  5. Stir in the baking soda and allow it to dissolve.
  6. Allow to cool a bit.
  7. Cream together: butter/margarine, sugars and eggs.
  8. Mix in applesauce with baking soda.
  9. In separate bowl, combine flour, allspice, cinnamon and baking powder.
  10. Add to creamed mixture along with floured gumdrops and nuts and stir in until incoporated.
  11. Grease two loaf pans or one bundt pan (9 inches at least).
  12. Add batter and bake in preheated 300 degree oven for 1.5 to 2 hours until done.
  13. Cake is done when a toothpick inserted in center comes out with little specks of cake, but not doughy.
