Sir John A. Macdonald's Soft Cookies

• 34 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup margarine
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1 egg
• 12 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 cups white flour
• 12 teaspoon vanilla

1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together.
2. Roll into small balls and place on a cookie sheet.
3. Press each ball down slightly with a fork.
4. Bake at 350 degrees F until light brown (10-11 minutes).
