Savory Baked Spaghetti
- 3 Tbsp. bacon grease or vegetable oil
- 2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
- 1 clove garlic (optional)
- 1/2 lb. ground chuck
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 (1 lb. 13 oz.) can tomatoes (3 1/2 c.)
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 c. water
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. spaghetti (uncooked)
- 1/4 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated (1 c.)
- Cook onions and garlic in bacon grease or oil in skillet for 5 minutes.
- Add chuck; cook, stirring occasionally, until meat loses its red color.
- Stir in salt, pepper and tomatoes.
- Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
- Discard garlic.
- Add chili powder and water.
- Break half of the uncooked spaghetti into greased 2-quart casserole dish.
- Pour on half of sauce; sprinkle with half of cheese.
- Repeat layers.
- Bake, uncovered, for 35 minutes at 325u0b0. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer or until brown.
- Yield:
- 6 servings.
