Strawberry Toasties

  1. For the toasties:
  2. Preheat oven to 400F.
  3. 1.
  4. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  5. 2.
  6. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in margarine so that it resembles coarse crumbs or pea-sized pieces.
  7. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over flour mixture; add remaining tablespoons as needed so that dough holds together when pressed.

  9. Shape dough into 2 balls.
  10. Chill for 30 minutes if too soft to roll out.
  11. (I didnt have to do this.)
  12. 4.
  13. Shape each ball into a triangle shape and roll out into a rectangle approximately 9x12 inches.
  14. 5.
  15. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
  16. On 6 pieces, place a spoonful of jam.
  17. Whisk egg and brush the remaining 6 pieces.
  18. 6.
  19. Sandwich a jam piece with an egg piece, egg side in.
  20. seal edge tightly with a fork or by pinching.
  21. 7.
  22. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  23. 8.
  24. Brush tops with remaining egg, sprinkle with white sugar.
  25. 9.
  26. Repeat with remaining dough.
  27. 10.
  28. Place in the oven for 13-15 minutes or until golden on top.
  29. For the icing: 1.
  30. Stir icing sugar with evaporated milk.
  31. 2.
  32. Spread over cooled Toasties.
  33. Enjoy!
