Apple and Cheddar Strata
- 12 slices day-old white bread, crusts removed, divided
- 1 lb. pork sausage, crumbled, cooked and drained
- 2 apples, cored, thinly sliced King Sooper's 1 lb For $0.87 thru 02/09
- 3/4 lb. (12 oz.) HOFFMAN'S SUPER-SHARP Pasteurized Process Cheddar Cheese, cut into 12 slices
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. ground red pepper
- Place 6 of the bread slices in 13x9-inch baking pan sprayed with cooking spray.
- Cover with layers of half each of the sausage, apples and process cheese.
- Repeat layers.
- Beat eggs, milk and seasonings with wire whisk until well blended.
- Pour over process cheese slices.
- Gently press remaining 6 bread slices into liquid to completely cover bread slices; cover.
- Refrigerate several hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Bake 50 min.
- to 1 hour or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
- Let stand 10 min.
- before cutting to serve.
