Old-Fashioned Beef Stew

  1. Combine flour, 1/2 t. salt and 1/4 t. pepper.
  2. Add beef; toss.
  3. In pot heat oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add beef.
  5. Cook, turning occasionally, until browned, 4-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from pot.
  7. To same pot add onion, garlic and remaining salt and pepper.
  8. Add w ine, scraping up browned bits from bottom.
  9. Stir in water, broth, Worcestershire, bay leaves and beef.
  10. Cover, simmer, stirring occasionally, 50 minutes.
  11. Uncover; add parsnips, potatoes and oregano.
  12. Simmer until tender, 35-40 miutes.
  13. Remove bay leaves.
  14. Sprinkle with parsley.
