Fried Tofu (Aburaage) Appetizers with Shiso, Bacon, and Cheese
- 2 slice Aburaage
- 1 fitting amount Easy melting cheese
- 2 slice Sliced bacon
- 4 leaves Shiso leaves
- 1 suitable amount Ponzu or storebought gelee (as you like)
- Using kitchen shears, cut 3 edges of the aburaage open, leave the fourth (long side) attached.
- Open the aburaage and lay two shiso leaves on top.
- On top of the shiso leaves, lay the bacon and cheese.
- Close the aburaage up again like a sandwich.
- Toast both sides of the filled aburaage from Step 2 in a nonstick pan.
- It's best to cook it slowly over medium heat.
- You can also toast the sandwich in a toaster oven.
- Place the sandwich on a toaster oven tray, and cook for 5-10 minutes for a perfectly done snack.
- Aim for a lightly browned surface.
