Marshmallow Fondant
- 2 lb Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 cup Crisco shortening
- 2 tbsp Water
- 16 oz White mini-marshmallows
- 1 large glass bowl
- Melt marshmallows and 2 tablespoons of water in a microwave.
- Place the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds, open microwave and stir, back in microwave for 30 seconds more.
- Continue doing this until melted.
- Takes usually 2 1/2 minutes.
- Place 3/4 of the powdered sugar on the top of the melted marshmallow mix.
- Grease hands and counter very generously, then dump bowl of mixture in the middle of the greased surface.
- Knead mixture like bread dough.
- Add the rest of the powdered sugar, and knead more.
- Keep hands greased.
- Add a little more water to mixture if it's tearing.
- This takes 8 minutes on average.
- Let sit overnight (best results, but can use immediately if needed), tightly wrapped in cellophane and/or ziplock bag.
- If you wish to add food coloring, it's best to do it the next day.
- Wear good plastic or latex gloves, then add coloring to the fondant, kneading as you go.
- The more you knead, the better the color will blend.
