Cherry Pecan Gems

  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Blend in egg, syrup, extract, and food coloring.
  3. Stir together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  4. Stir into cremed mixture.
  5. Stir in nuts.
  6. Shape dough into two 9-inch rolls.
  7. Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap.
  8. Chill well.
  9. Cut into 1/4-inch slices; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  10. Lightly press a well-drained red cherry half into center of each cookie.
  11. Bake at 375F for 10-12 minutes.
  12. Cool slightly; remove to rack.
