Apfel Kuchen Recipe
- 2 pkt Dry yeast
- 1/2 c. Hot water
- 4 c. Flour
- 2/3 c. Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 3/4 c. Butter
- 1/2 c. Lowfat milk, scalded, cooled
- 2 lrg Large eggs, slightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp. Butter, melted
- 4 c. Apples, peeled, cored, slice
- 1/4 c. Butter, melted
- 1/4 c. Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
- SWEET DOUGH: Sprinkle yeast over hot water; stir to dissolve.
- Combine flour, sugar, and salt in large mixing bowl.
- Cut in butter till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add in combined lowfat milk, Large eggs, and yeast to dry ingredients; mix well.
- Brush with butter.
- Cover; refrigerateovernight.
- APFEL KUCHEN: Bring dough to room temperature.
- Divide dough in half; spread into 2 buttered 8" square pans.
- Press apples into dough.
- Brush dough with butter.
- Sprinkle with combined sugar and cinnamon.
- Cover; let dough rise in hot place till doubled.
- Bake in preheated 350 F oven 40-45 min or possibly till wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
