Strufuli

  1. Pour flour onto work surface with a small well on top to hold egg and butter.
  2. Combine with fork, eggs, butter sugar liquor (optional) and the grated lemon peel (orange peal optional) and a pinch of salt.
  3. Add yeast activated in warm water and doubled in size.
  4. (Can also be made without yeast.)
  5. Combine and knead until the pasta is solid and slightly shiny.
  6. Allow to rest approximately 30 minutes.
  7. Pull off sections and roll into long strips.
  8. Cut small squares and toss onto lightly floured cloth until ready to fry.
  9. Fry until golden and use slotted spoon to remove.
  10. Allow to dry on paper towels until cooled and ready to combine with honey.
  11. Heat honey with a tbs of water until bubbling.
  12. Remove from heat and add fried pasta.
  13. Mix well.
  14. Top with candied sprinkles/ confettini.
