It Exists, Its Delicious: Turducken Lasagna With Fresh Ricotta

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over high heat.
  2. When the oil is shimmering, add the ground turkey, duck, and chicken and season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Cook, stirring, until the meat is lightly browned, about 6 minutes.
  4. Transfer the meat to a plate.
  5. Add the onion, garlic, fennel, and red-pepper flakes to the pan and cook, stirring, until the onion is softened but not browned, about 2 minutes.
  6. Return the meat to the pan and stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato puree.
  7. Rinse the tomato cans by adding about 1/4 cup water to each, swishing it around, and stirring the tomato-tinged water into the sauce.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper, bring to a simmer, and continue to simmer for 40 minutes.
  9. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the basil.
  10. The sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
