Bread and Butter Pickles
- 25 -30 cucumbers
- 8 large white onions
- 2 large bell peppers
- 12 cup salt
- 5 cups vinegar
- 5 cups sugar
- 2 tablespoons mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 12 teaspoon clove
- Wash the cucumbers and slice thinly.
- Chop the onions and peppers and combine with the cucumbers and salt.
- Let the mixture stand for 3 hours and drain.
- Combine the vinegar, sugar and spices in a large pot and bring to a boil.
- Add the drained cucumbers and heat but do not boil.
- Pack in canning jars and seal at once while still hot.
