Apple Cranberry Dumplings
- 5 medium granny smith apples, diced
- 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce
- 12 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 12 cup shortening
- 34 cup milk
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 12 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon ground cloves
- 12 cup butter or 12 cup margarine
- Stir together first three ingredients; drain.
- Combine flour and next three ingredients.
- cut in shortening with pastry blender till crumbly; add milk, stirring till dry ingredients are moist.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times.
- Roll dough into a 18 x 12 inch rectangle.
- spread apple mixture over dough.
- roll up, jeelyroll fashion, starting at short end.
- Cut into 1 inch slices, and place, cut side down, in a greased 13 x 9 pan.
- Bring 2 cups water and next 3 ingredients to boil in pan; boil 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, and stir in butter.
- pour hot syrup over dumplings.
- Bake 425 for 35-40 minutes.
- Serve warm.
