Apple Cranberry Dumplings

  1. Stir together first three ingredients; drain.
  2. Combine flour and next three ingredients.
  3. cut in shortening with pastry blender till crumbly; add milk, stirring till dry ingredients are moist.
  4. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times.
  5. Roll dough into a 18 x 12 inch rectangle.
  6. spread apple mixture over dough.
  7. roll up, jeelyroll fashion, starting at short end.
  8. Cut into 1 inch slices, and place, cut side down, in a greased 13 x 9 pan.
  9. Bring 2 cups water and next 3 ingredients to boil in pan; boil 5 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat, and stir in butter.
  11. pour hot syrup over dumplings.
  12. Bake 425 for 35-40 minutes.
  13. Serve warm.
