Mushroom and Swiss Burgers

  1. Prepare grill or stove top.
  2. Heat a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat, coat pan with cooking spray.
  3. Add onion, cover and cook 5 minutes, stirring occansionally.
  4. Add sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; cook uncovered 5 minutes or until tender, stirring occansionally.
  5. Remove onion from pan and keep warm.
  6. Heat pan over medium-high heat, coat pan with cooking spray and add mushrooms and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  7. Saute 5 minutes or until tender.
  8. Combine 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef.
  9. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2 inch thick patty.
  10. Preheat broiler
  11. Place patties on grill rack coated with cooking spray, grill 5 minutes on each side or until done.
  12. place bread on grill rack, grill 1 minute on each side or until toasted.
  13. Arrange bread on a baking sheet, top each bread slice with 1 patty, 1/4 cup onion, 1/4 mushroom, and 2 tablespoons cheese (or 1 slice of cheese) broil 2 minutes or until cheese melts.
