Swiss Steak Cafe

  1. Trim fat from meat; cut into 6 serving size pieces.
  2. In a 12- inch skillet brown meat on all sides in hot oil.
  3. Drain off fat.
  4. Place onion in the bottom of a 3 1/2 to 6 quart slow cooker.
  5. Add meat.
  6. Combine coffee, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and oregano; pour over meat and onion.
  7. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 8-10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours.
  8. Remove meat and onions to a platter; keep warm.
  9. Measure 2 cups cooking juices; pour into a small saucepan.
  10. Discard bay leaves.
  11. Combine water and cornstarch; stir into saucepan.
  12. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  13. Cook and stir 2 minutes more.
  14. Serve sauce with round steak.
