Flora's Meatball Subs
- 1 pd. lean ground hamburger
- 1 1/4 cup italian bread crumbs
- 3 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 1 28oz jar marinara sauce
- 1 28oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 egg
- 1 pd ground sausage
- 6 large french bread rolls or 12 small
- 2 stick of melted butter
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 cup mozzarella cheese
- In a dutch oven combine the marinara sauce, tomatoes, red pepper flake, garlic powder, basil, and oregano.
- Simmer this over low heat for 20 min.
- While sauce is simmering in a large bowl combine beef, sausage, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, and onion.
- Mix this thoroughly.
- Form into small meatballs.
- Brown the meatballs on both side in a skillet coated with a small amount of oil
- Place the cooked meatballs into the marinara sauce.
- Cut your french bread lengthwise and place on a baking pan.
- In a bowl mix the butter and garlic powder
- Brush the garlic butter on the rolls.
- Place in a 425 degrees oven until browned
- When browned add the meatballs and some of the sauce on the bottom portion and top with some of the cheese and place under broiler until melted.
- Take out and place top on sammie and enjoy!
