white rice - cooking pictures
- 2 cup small grain rice
- 2 1/2 cup water
- 3 tbsp of either: vegetable oil, butter, ghee, olive oil
- 5 cardamom
- 2 tsp salt, black pepper, cinnamon or 1 small cinnamon stick (if u like it)
- wash rice under running water to get rid of the extra starch.
- then tap dry in the sieve
- heat oil and add the spices or add them on the rice.
- stir for a few seconds.
- on high heat
- add rice and stir for 2 minutes.
- all on high heat , add water , stir and level and keep uncovered till water starts boiling.
- if you are making more rice for more people then add water to cover the top of the rice.
- once the water boils lower the heat to the lowest and cover firmly for 20 minutes.
- check on it after 15 minutes to see if it needs more water to soften.
- if so then add an extra half cup of water.
- if the rice ever gets soggy cook uncovered for an additional 10 minutes while checking with a wooden spoon, just flip some up or try a couple for taste.
- you can make brown rice by stiring it longer in the oil or as some people here like it: brown half the rice and then add the white rice for a mixed colour , one and one.
