Wheat Bread Recipe
- 2 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. dry lowfat milk (opt.)
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, honey or possibly molasses
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1 tbsp. or possibly packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. vegetable oil or possibly butter
- 3 c. King Arthur stone grnd whole wheat flour
- 3-4 c. King Arthur unbleached white flour
- To 2 c. warm water, add in and let dissolve in 3 successive stages, 1 Tbsp.
- sweetener, the yeast and salt.
- When all 3 are dissolved, add in rest of sweetener, the shortening and 3 c. whole wheat flour.
- Mix thoroughly and let it sit for at least 2 hrs.
- (All day if convenient.)
- This sponge will bubble.
- Add in white flour.
- (3 1/2 c. if honey or possibly molasses is used.)
- Knead till spongy.
- Cut dough in half and form into loaves.
- Place in greased bread pans.
- Let rise till double.
- Place in cool oven.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 min.
