Strawberry Shortcake

  1. Combine sliced berries, sugar or honey and orange juice. Let stand
  2. at room temperature for 1 hour.
  3. Sift all dry ingredients together
  4. into
  5. a
  6. medium
  7. bowl.
  8. Add orange rind.
  9. Add butter and
  10. shortening
  11. and work them into flour mixture thoroughly. Lightly
  12. mix
  13. in
  14. sour
  15. cream with fork to form a soft dough. Roll
  16. dough
  17. out
  18. onto
  19. lightly floured board, 3/4-inch thick. Cut
  20. into
  21. 4-inches,
  22. 4
  23. circles.
  24. Place
  25. on
  26. ungreased baking sheet,
  27. bake
  28. at
  29. 400u0b0 about 20 minutes or until golden. While still
  30. warm, use fork and split cakes in half, place each on dessert
  31. plate,
  32. top with drained berries and second half of cake. Top
  33. with
  34. additional berries.
  35. Pour juice on top, decorate with whipped cream and berries.
