Granny's Green Apple Pie Recipe
- 5 green baking or possibly cooking apples
- 5 tbsp. sugar
- 2 teaspoon grnd cinnamon
- 3 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 Large eggs
- 1 c. vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 c. orange juice
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
- 2 tbsp. soft butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp. water
- Grease and flour a 10 inch tube or possibly Bundt pan.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Peel apples, core and thinly slice in mixing bowl, toss apple slices with 5 Tbsp.
- sugar and 2 tsp.
- grnd cinnamon and set aside.
- In another large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt, Large eggs, oil, vanilla, orange juice, baking soda and baking pwdr.
- With electric mixer, blend together on low speed for 1 minute.
- Clean down side of bowl with rubber scraper and increase speed to medium and blend for 3 min.
- You will have a very thick dough.
- Fill prepared pan with alternating layers of batter and apples.
- Making a total of 3 batter layers and 2 apple layers.
- Start and finish with batter.
- Bake for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hrs or possibly till a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cook on rack 10 min, then invert cake, remove pan.
- Allow cake to cold completely on rack.
- Make glaze: Mix confectioners' sugar, butter, vanilla and water till smooth.
- Drizzle on cooled Granny's Green Apple Cake.
- Serve about 10-12 people.
