Beef Stew

  1. Mix flour, salt and pepper.
  2. Coat meat with flour mixture.
  3. Melt shortening in large skillet; brown meat thoroughly.
  4. Add water;heat to boiling.
  5. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hours.
  6. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  7. Simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
  8. In covered jar, shake 1 cup (225 ml) cold water and 2 tbsp (30 ml) to 4 tbsp (60 ml) flour until blended.
  9. Stir into stew; heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  10. Boil and stir 1 minute.
