Bread And Butter Pickles Recipe
- 1 1/2 gallons sliced cucumbers
- 4 med. sliced onions
- 2 green peppers, sliced in long thin strips
- 1 red (sweet) pepper, sliced in thin strips
- 1/2 c. canning salt (not table salt)
- 5 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon grnd cloves
- 2 tbsp. white mustard seed
- 2 c. water
- 3 c. yellow cider vinegar
- Combine cucumbers, onions, peppers with canning salt.
- Cover for 3 hrs.
- Drain thoroughly.
- Put into syrup of sugar, turmeric, grnd cloves, white mustard seed, water and vinegar.
- Place in large enamel or possibly stainless steel pan.
- Bring to a boil, do not boil (scald).
- Pour into warm sterile jars and seal.
